Maine Audubon Native Brook Trout Survey

Hi everyone:

My niece, Emily Bastian, who is posed here wearing a huge grin and holding a big brook trout she caught recently in the Magalloway River, under the “Brook Trout Trio” post, started her new job with Maine Audubon in early June. She is working in their office in Falmouth, Maine.

Emily is the coordinator for the Brook Trout Pond Survey, a cooperative project involving Maine Audubon, The Maine Council of Trout Unlimited, and The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

This effort is under way with a list of 187 ponds in the Moosehead Lake area of the state. Volunteers are needed to help assess brook trout populations in ponds, many of which have never been surveyed. Volunteering involves —- guess what ? Fishing!
